Tom MullinsCounters Luján Attack As Smoke Screen
Tom Mullins, Republican Candidate for the United States House of Representatives, 3rd Congressional Districthas countered Ben Luján’s recent charges of “racism” against him.
“I am dismayed, but no longer surprised, that the Luján campaign is leaving no stone unturned looking for a scrap of something Rep. Luján can take out of context to make an emotionally charged accusation against me. One would almost think that I am the incumbent in this contest from the tenor and frequency of these attacks. However, it is Ben Lujanwho has the record that needs to bescrutinizedand Lujan’s attacks are nothing more than a smoke screen to forestall that scrutiny.Ben Luján needs to explain to the citizens in the 3rd Congressional District where all the jobs are that the Democrats promised, why people continue to lose their homes, and why they cannot get any credit, rather thandistracting attention from his own dismal record on these issues by trying topaint me in some negative light.
Ifrankly do not recall makingany remark such as Ben Lujan alleges, but I can assure the members of the Kewa Pueblo, where I attended the ceremony, that I do remember feeling a deep sense of humility that I was able to be there and share their age old sacred traditions and the sense of community that the ceremony represented. I was honored to be in attendance and I could have only beenthinking how fortunate I was to be there, and that it was regrettable that more whites, like myself, do not have or take up this same opportunity. I truly believe that it is through sharingtraditions andcultural experiences that people of all races grow in their understanding and acceptance of one another. I would feel very badly if I offended anyone at the Pueblo because they were extremely gracious and I was enormously appreciative of their hospitality.”
Mullins is a registered professional engineer and small business owner who is a first time candidate for elected office.Mullins won the Republican primary to challengefreshman Congressman Ben Ray Luján, Jr for the 3rd Congressional seat. The seat covers sixteen (16) counties in Northern and Eastern New Mexico, including the majority of the Pueblos in New Mexico, the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the New Mexico portion of the Navajo Nation.
